Emerald Wave
A momentary figure of water and light.

Creation From Destruction
The ongoing erosion and scarring of storms, has slowly shaped and worn upon this vast coastal wilderness. A relatable process that can initially seem destructive on the surface, but in time, gives way to a marvellous new creation.

Water And Light

Aloft
Water, mountains and a flood of glorious light across a land once born from adversity.

Timeless
As the sun made it’s awaited descent, I sat and beheld the colours spread and transform in both water and sky. A mere bystander in a seemingly timeless scene of beauty and peace.

Shore Of The Ancients
Along a stretch of desolate and remote coastline, this perfect family of resilient towers arise on the the shore. There’s been several attempts but three years on after my friend Marc Adamus and I first discovered this location, I was finally able to capture something here that provides a glimpse of the majesty of this lost coast.

Until The Very End
Ancient ruins located in one of the NZ’s most remote areas. Battered and scarred by regular storms and raging seas, these towers refuse to fall.

Guardian Of The Tides
A personal favourite, an expression of my relationship with both the mountains and sea. Here, the waves of the Tasman Sea crash beneath the towering Southern Alps, with Mount Tasman and Cook overlooking the shore. This image began as an idea and vision that finally materialised, after many months and multiple attempts.

Oscillation
To me, the great beauty of the Southern Alps is their close proximity to the sea, where the highest peaks rise to a towering 12,000ft above the surface of the water. Finding and accessing locations that reveal this relationship is not simple, but some of these views are the greatest in the country.

Relic
A survivor from the past, underneath the soft skies of the north.

The Wreck Of Hope
The title of this is inspired by the 19th century painting by Caspar Friedrich. Birds filled the sky and seals darted across the waters as the afternoon light flooded the landscape behind Jokulsarlon in Iceland. An ever changing scene that was soon gone. A glacial tongue can be seen in the distance, in the land of fire and ice.

Dusk
The remote, south west corner of Fiordland. An expanse of fiords and islands that are too wild, rugged and remote to be settled. So, nature reigns supreme, with storms often flooding and transforming the landscape, this golden afternoon being a rare exception.

Times Of Old
Wind obliterating a wave, right in the fleeting moments of a sunset. There’s a strangely familiar feeling I experience when viewing this one, like a window back to a former moment in time.

Ocean Valley
The ocean as its uplifted from the deep depths, moments before forming a towering wave. This frame reminded me of a mountainous valley.

Survivor
When we emerge from one wave, only to be greeted by an onslaught of more. Life presents us with our own individual storms to endure and lately my mind has been with those who are born into adversity and challenging circumstances beyond their control. There’s not always an answer for the suffering and pain in the world but I do put my hope in a greater good that will prevail. This represents a sole survivor that was able to overcome.

Wrath Of The Sea
I’m drawn to subjects and weather that I both fear and revere. A storm surge uplifting the ocean is one such environment.

Rise Up
This is the closest beach to my home in New Zealand, just over an hours drive and much different than those I grew up beside in Australia. The ocean can be incredibly violent down here, with strong winds often battering the coast. On a calm day, these views are some of the finest in the world. Captured at sunset as the afternoon sun painted the land and sea gold.

Fallen And Redeemed
I’ve been leaving my phone behind lately, as well as my camera. When I’m able to intimately connect with nature, I better understand myself and my role as a husband, father, friend and son. We live in a society that uses business to hide emptiness. Don’t be afraid to do less and allow yourself to tend to unhealed wounds. That’s what this photo represents, the healing process that leads to completion.

Within The Storm
This was an eerie afternoon as a storm rapidly approached and completely changed the landscape within minutes. I remember watching the light on the sea and sand change tone as the moisture laden cloud closed in, bringing with it some ferocious wind gusts. This was a real battle to stay upright but I really wanted to capture the swell that was thundering in, with the lip of the waves often being torn apart by the wind. A complete drenching from head to toe, heart racing, ears stinging from the pelting rain yet somehow there was an astounding peace and beauty within this storm. Great fun!
Lofoten Norway
Completion
A place that isn’t new to me, nor is this composition. here’s not many locations that I’ll re-shoot, but Cathedral Rocks is my exception. I’ve captured vibrant sunrises here, lightning storms and ran many photography workshops by these shores. A rainbow was something that alluded me and after moving to New Zealand I figured the opportunity was gone. During a brief trip back to Australia I had a very short window for some photography and whilst keeping an eye on the weather one afternoon, I could see the elements begin to align. I committed to the drive down and had a quiet confidence that this was the moment. I sat by the shore for 10-minutes before the light prevailed out west and lit up the moist cloud over the sea.

Ventus
Wind gusts exceeding 125km/h made this one hell of a shoot. Black sand ripped across the sky and into my skin and the surf was a violent, chaotic force that was nothing short of inspiring.
Vik, Iceland
The Forsaken
This family of colossal remains is simply phenomenal, rising tall on an isolated cove in the far reaches of New Zealand. I had the pleasure of exploring these areas with Marc Adamus on some scouting trips, with both of us declaring these coastlines to just about be the very best in the world for seascape photography. No doubt there will be more to come from here.
