Waiting For The Sun

A bitterly cold morning beside a fractured and frozen Lake Mackenzie on the Routeburn Track. The final journey to the lake involved a few kilometres of tramping through fresh snow and hoar frost, with night temperatures reaching past -10. The loud and unusual sound of the ice sheet cracking and contracting would echo throughout the valley all night.
