Camera Gear For Landscape Photography
As a professional landscape photographer, one of the common question I’m asked, is what gear do I use and recommend.
Having taught thousands of students across 15 years, I’ve tried and used almost every camera and lens you can imagine. Thankfully we live in a time where most of the brands and models are more than capable and great for landscape photography. However, there’s a few key things I look for in my camera equipment.
In this video, I’ll share with you what gear I use and why, as well as suggestions for alternatives.
I hope you enjoy!
In short, if you’re serious about landscape photography, you really want a camera with a large dynamic range, in order to capture deep shadows and bright highlights. Having an ultra-wide, mid-range and telephoto lens will allow you to create a variety of different compositions and work with diverse subject matters. A high resolution sensor is also a positive thing, allowing for cropping in post and production of large prints.
A mirrorless camera with stabilisation (ibis) will allow you to work handheld more often and free yourself up in the field. Although I do not use a tripod (except when capturing the night sky), I still suggest having one when you first start out. Something light with a ball head will do.
