Lost and found
Exploring new and remote locations is just as rewarding and exciting to me as the art of creating photos. When I am able to look at something for the first time, without any pre-conceived ideas, inspiration flows and the creative process is undisturbed. This was the case when I spent some time along this isolated coast with mates, seeking out photographic opportunities amongst miles of caves, arches and jagged sea stacks. It’s hard not to feel alive in these moments, knowing that where we stood, very few have.

Forgotten Ones
This remote stretch of coast is a fusion of the best seascape locations I’ve ever explored, where lush forests descend to greet a vast expanse of caves, jagged stacks and spires along endless shores. The hand of man is far removed from these parts, with a timeless presence felt when amidst these ancient giants. Upon our final visit here in an attempt to capture some atmosphere and light, a storm had cleared and the sinking sun bid us farewell in the most glorious of ways. I shared this moment with my friend Marc Adamus – someone I have a lot of respect for. You can view his version here.

Comfort within darkness
The majority of my travel is to host my workshops, during this time my attention is on others and not necessarily about creating new work for myself. On occasion, I’ll allow a day or so to potentially capture something, which was the case here. After close to 40 hours of travel to Iceland, I arrived at 3pm and picked up my hire car before heading 3 hours north into the only part of the country with possibility of clear skies. My hope was to capture the aurora over the Hvitserkur sea stack and arriving just on nightfall, the all familiar glow of the northern lights was right before my eyes as I parked my car. The display last the entire night and after almost a year since my last encounter, it was a comforting and welcomed experience to be in the presence of such majesty yet again, something I am truly thankful for.

This is goodbye
The majority of the worlds glaciers are in rapid retreat, something that is clearly evident in Iceland. At this location, ice falls from a glacier and makes its way upon the sea shore at Jokulsarlon. After thousands of years solidified with the earth, these frozen sculptures meet their end as they are slowly consumed once and for all by the great abyss. No two days are the same at this location, making every visit one to remember, as it was on this particular afternoon beside these towering structures.

Armageddon
The most memorable thing about Bombo is the violent yet beautiful relation between ocean and earth. It’s taken me quite a few years to try and convey this through an image, with this here being my most recent attempt. I’m currently enjoying some down time at home with family which is much needed after a very busy start to the year running workshops all over the place. When home, it doesn’t mean I put down my camera, I’m always watching the sky for any special light, as was the case here. I had the pleasure of sharing this moment with my 2.5yr old son, Judah who was a much safer distance from the water than I.

Afflicted
Driving straight into the storm, the familiar feeling of comfortable discomfort made me smile. Relentless rain and the gusty southerly eventually gave way to an eerie calm. The horizon was set ablaze in sequential bursts of light as we sat us mere witnesses, humbled by the reality of being here in the now.

Unto The Sea
A sight not many Sydney siders would know is in their own backyard. Curracurrong Falls is found in Sydneys Royal National Park (the world’s second oldest national park) and is quite a unique to the Australian landscape. Every trip here has provided various conditions but this particular afternoon everything seemed to align for a memorable moment spent by the edge of the sea, standing atop of the iconic Eagle Rock.

Meridian II
Almost 4 years ago I captured an image from within this cave, one that has always been a personal favourite. A Representation of moving from confined darkness out into the freedom of light. I’ll always be grateful for the gift of photography and the way it has helped me see the world through new eyes, stepping out of my former self. I frequent this area more than any other, mainly for workshops now but I’d always had this high tide vision in mind. As a new chapter begins in life, new priorities both personal and photography related, I figured now was as good a time as ever to be at one with the sea yet again.

All is not lost
An incredibly moving experience I had, one summers afternoon. I really don’t know what to say about this moment, I think I’ll keep it short to avoid coming across as pretentious. Although surrounded by chaos, howling wind, rain and consuming darkness, I felt entirely at peace during this shoot. Accepting what I cannot control, humbled by the relentless forces that remind me of my place in this world. A warm glow appeared followed by a full bow stretching across the horizon. Mid way through my exposure darkness became light with the first bolt from the sky, the second following within the next minute. A graceful reminder and assurance to keep chasing, pursuing and desiring the presence of something much greater than I. View the behind the scenes here.

Liberate
A beautifully chaotic moment, off the coast of NSW whilst on a road trip with my wife and son. After a big year of travel it was nice to visit locations closer to home and still be inspired by what nature had to offer. I watched this storm roll in at sunset and then it moved out to sea, continuing to illuminate the sky throughout the night.

Until the end
Standing here before the raging sea, surrounded by the ancient, scarred basalt is nothing short of humbling. I find an indescribable sense of hope in these resilient places, despite our failures, nature finds a way. Until the end.

Know hope
One of the most moving experiences I have had with a camera. After a rough week, I was eager to escape and spend some time by the sea. After work I made my way to the beach. As the sun began to set I noticed this rock shelf far in the distance and then suddenly a small rainbow appeared on the horizon. I ran as fast as I could across the beach. What was only 300 meters or so felt like a marathon. After slipping and sliding across the mossy rocks, I stood before this scene. With the ocean raging, a storm looming overhead and a bow of light out at sea, I felt the weight of the world lift off my shoulders as I was reminded why I loved photography so much.
