Rebirth
The Fiordland forests are my sanctuary of solace. Regardless of the weather, these places offer a veil of peace and provide unlimited photographic opportunities. This was a planned shoot, after finding this tree a week prior. I wanted to return with some afternoon light, with this image being the result.

50 Shades Of Green
Lush green forests with running water, a scene that has drawn me in since I was a child. My passion is for creating dramatic imagery but I must say that places like this would have to be one of my favourites to explore. The minutes can easily roll into hours when gently making your way through the depths of these hidden places.

Atonement
The forests in Fiordland are a safe place for me, one that always provides solace and rest. This section here is less than 10 minutes from my house and is often draped in gold during the afternoon, as the sun makes its way behind the nearby mountains. This is a simple single exposure with a narrow aperture being used the create the sunstar.

Uniformity
As the rain subsides and makes its way through the valleys and out to sea, the forest is cleansed and the cycle continues.

Tempest
Eating dinner with my family, we watched this storm suddenly emerge from behind the nearby ranges. By the time I grabbed my gear and ran to the car, the light and atmosphere had eerily shifted, as the wind picked up and thunder began to echo around the valley walls. Setting up by these lupin and gazing up at this cloud, I began to question my decision to be outdoors, so exposed to the violence that was about to ensue. I soon ran back to shelter as hail, lightning and strong winds made their way on shore. I was filled with mixed emotions of joy and fear and could do nothing but laugh at the power of such an event, something that really reminded me how futile we humans are. In the morning all the lupin in this location we obliterated, lying sideways and scattered in every direction.

Radiance
Greeting the oceans edge, lush fern forest like this stretches the majority of Fiordlands coast. During the morning and evening, the sun would make its way through the canopy, scattering gold across the greenery in this particular location. Listening to the oceans waves gently arrive onshore, we spent the night here with wild deer walking about our tents.

Together forever
I’ve enjoyed photographing these old trees for years, since I first picked up a camera really. On this particular afternoon I was home watching a storm roll through and could see the faintest of breaks in the cloud, low on the horizon. Despite having a million other things to do, I took off in the car with hope that the low lying sun would eventually make its way through. As you can, everything lined up on this occasion, resulting in spectacular sunset that even had a rainbow out east. These moments are rare but landscape photography is all about the pursuit of such instances. A special thanks to my wife who has supported me through the years, whether near or far.

Together As One
Storms come and go but light remains, as it did on this particular afternoon when the setting sun found it’s way through the cloud above and made for one of the grandest sunsets I’ve beheld.

Resilience
A fresh dump of snow fell overnight and transformed the Patagonian countryside into a winter wonderland. The mountains were covered in cloud so I trekked east and came across this tree standing tall in a world trying to bring it down.

Tree of life
I grew up passing by this tree on a daily basis and always thought it would make a great subject for a painting or photo. Many years later, not long after picking up a camera, I ventured here and captured this simple photo. It remains the oldest image in my portfolio yet one of the most special to me. In this moment I realised the power and joy of photography, how we can make our visions a reality and share with others how we truly see the world.
