No one knows
Tucked away in the far reaches of the fiords, a small stream gentle winds and falls through the complex Fiordland forest, eventually making its way to the sea.

Contortion
A run of cold temperatures caused a lot of leaves to turn yellow and die, resulting in a semi-autumnal display of colour, which is not common in the forests of New Zealand. I enjoyed trying to capture this striking splash of yellow amongst the evergreen forest.

I spent a few hours walking through the hills, trying to get up into the soft fog that was rolling through the forest. This was a scene that caught my eye.

Stand Firm
I came across this large fern tree a few years back and visit it from time to time. It stands alone and firm, commanding the attention of any who may pass by. On this particular afternoon, the light was just right.

Far Away Places

The Search
A prolonged period of rain caused this portion of the forest to flood and create an unusual combination of beech trees emerging from the waters. After discovering this scene, I returned at sunrise to capture the morning light as it filtered through the trees. It was an enjoyable to challenge which I only got to attempt once, as the waters receded the following day.

Holding On

Floating Forest
A prolonged period of rain caused the lake waters to rise and enter into the nearby forest, swallowing the base of these old beech trees. It made for a special moment at dawn, as the light also flooded in. See how this was made, over on my Youtube channel.
