Comfort within darkness
The majority of my travel is to host my workshops, during this time my attention is on others and not necessarily about creating new work for myself. On occasion, I’ll allow a day or so to potentially capture something, which was the case here. After close to 40 hours of travel to Iceland, I arrived at 3pm and picked up my hire car before heading 3 hours north into the only part of the country with possibility of clear skies. My hope was to capture the aurora over the Hvitserkur sea stack and arriving just on nightfall, the all familiar glow of the northern lights was right before my eyes as I parked my car. The display last the entire night and after almost a year since my last encounter, it was a comforting and welcomed experience to be in the presence of such majesty yet again, something I am truly thankful for.

Higher Calling
Illustrious, mesmerising, heavenly – there is no shortage of words used to describe what it’s like to stand beneath the Northern Lights during a vibrant display across the nigh sky. The beauty of such phenomena can be very short lived however, and on this particular night, the lights were suddenly dimmed upon arriving at this location. After close to three hours of waiting and just about ready to leave, the glory was revealed once more as the green glow illuminated the earth and dance across the sky for a mere minute or two.
