Elder
One of my favourite sections of forest in Fiordland that is equally beautiful and difficult to capture. After many visits, I finally walked away on this particular afternoon with a couple of frames worth sharing.

Life And Light
The lush, tropical forest of the Daintree is an abundance of life and colour. I thoroughly enjoyed many warm mornings and evenings wandering these dense forests, exploring the various shapes and forms which make this place so special.

Mighty
An ancient beech tree, catching the warmth of autumns soft light. It’s a special time of year as the days are shorter and the air crisper.

Radiate
Shortly after sunrise, as the thick, humid tropical air is radiated by the morning light.

Tropical Giants
The humidity in these North QLD rainforests was truly an experience. On many occasions, my lens would fog over due to the moisture in the air. It was quite a novelty and contrast for me, coming from the cooler, temperature rainforests of New Zealand.

Scatter
Morning light breaks through the dense rainforest and bleeds across the reflective swamp waters.

Full Bloom
It’s only every few years that the southern beech flowers, so when it does, it is quite spectacular, as the vibrant reds and oranges splash colour across the evergreen forest.

Fingers of light
The cold, shades of the forest is brought to life in the warm rays of dawn.

There’s nothing like the slow, mediative pace of woodland photography.

Twist
Light (and shade) is everything in photography, particularly when it comes to tree and woodland photography. For a brief window in time, this small pocket of native woods was incredibly inspiring as the soft light of dusk delicately painted this gum forest beside Lake Macquarie.

Morning Rise
As the morning awakens the sleeping forest. Mist rises and the leaves begin to glow.

Us Two
The greens within the New Zealand forest must be seen to be believed. They are particularly radiant after rain and with some gentle, diffused light.

Tangled
The forest is beautifully chaotic. Here is another attempt at capturing such complexity which typifies these wild areas of the fiords.

Arms Of The Forest
Golden yellow leaves are sprinkled throughout the canopy of the Silver Beech during autumn, which makes for a vibrant contrast against the green forest. The contorted branches of the silver beech are one of my favourite elements in the natural world. This frame is my attempt at showing the beauty of the trees as well as this lovely waterfall on the coast.

Ablaze
One of my favourite times of year as the air cools, the light softens and the first snows drape the mountains. The autumn colours are a nice bonus too!

The Light We Seek
On a grey morning I took my boat across the lake and took to the hills, in order to ascend to where the light touched the cloud. After a few kms hiking, I found myself immersed in the beautiful transition where sun pierced the foggy veil.

Screamer
A family of trees completely exposed to the elements on the far south west of NZ, blasted by a lifetime of relentless wind.
