Refuse to fall
High in the mountains, where the rain quickly turns to snow and the mighty beech trees are shaped and moulded by the elements the can either destroy or strengthen them.

Light Portal
An unexpected moment I encountered early one morning in the thick, tropical forest of the Daintree. A gentle reminder that you can’t plan the most memorable moments, you just need to put yourself out there to witness them. I published a handful of similar frames from this brief window in time, as I couldn’t narrow it down to just one!

I spent a few hours walking through the hills, trying to get up into the soft fog that was rolling through the forest. This was a scene that caught my eye.

Stand Firm
I came across this large fern tree a few years back and visit it from time to time. It stands alone and firm, commanding the attention of any who may pass by. On this particular afternoon, the light was just right.

Peel
A small family of gum trees, captured one foggy autumn morning. I’m a sucker for these gum textures. You can see how this was made, in my course on trees and woodlands.

The Search
A prolonged period of rain caused this portion of the forest to flood and create an unusual combination of beech trees emerging from the waters. After discovering this scene, I returned at sunrise to capture the morning light as it filtered through the trees. It was an enjoyable to challenge which I only got to attempt once, as the waters receded the following day.

Floating Forest
A prolonged period of rain caused the lake waters to rise and enter into the nearby forest, swallowing the base of these old beech trees. It made for a special moment at dawn, as the light also flooded in. See how this was made, over on my Youtube channel.

Elder
One of my favourite sections of forest in Fiordland that is equally beautiful and difficult to capture. After many visits, I finally walked away on this particular afternoon with a couple of frames worth sharing.

Tropical Giants
The humidity in these North QLD rainforests was truly an experience. On many occasions, my lens would fog over due to the moisture in the air. It was quite a novelty and contrast for me, coming from the cooler, temperature rainforests of New Zealand.

It’s only every few years that the southern beech flowers, so when it does, it is quite spectacular, as the vibrant reds and oranges splash colour across the evergreen forest.
