Light Break
The weather and light moves fast in Fiordland. One of the best approaches for any artist is to be spontaneous, simply letting the light lead the dance. Moments like this arise and vanish within seconds.

Framed
There’s nothing like the slow, mediative pace of woodland photography.

At Peace
Many miles from the nearest road, we wandered for hours following these pristine waters as they coursed through the forested mountainside. These are some of my fondest times and memories.

Break The Sea
One of the most exposed, weather battered areas of New Zealand. A place that constantly inspires.
Breaksea Sound, Fiordland (2025)
Rage
A moment of beautiful rage, in the narrowest part of the fiord during an immense storm. We clocked wind gusts up at 130km/h on this day. A power and fury I won’t forget.

Redirect
When it comes to capturing the forest and woodlands, it pays to take it slow. The more you look, the more you see. I’ve never quite seen a fern frond do something like this before.

Caught Between
The gentle light of dawn skims the cliff hanging beech trees, backlit by the descending moon. Single exposure, 800mm perspective.

Seafall
A waterfall plunging from the dense forest straight into the sea, on a rainy day. Where else but Fiordland!

A crips winters night in the back country, this bright lunar halo caught my eye when collecting firewood.

Dancing With Light
Some of the most fun I’ve had with the camera, wandering without a thought or regard for time in awe of the light and creatures of the forest.

Gold Dust
A winter wonderland as the silver beech trees turn gold in the snow and light.

Winter Light
I can still feel the cool, crisp air upon my skin when I look at this image. It’s hard to rival the short days and soft light of winter in the South Island especially after a fresh snow storm when the light finally breaks through.

The sculpted landscape of Fiordland in all its glory.

The Watcher
This small grove of trees will be familiar to any landscape photographer who’s passed through this area. I’ve kept my eye on these Kamahi trees for a few years, waiting for the right conditions. Finally on this calm quiet morning, the soft warm light and misty atmosphere aligned for a few brief moments.

A distant and special shore where waterfalls plunge from cliffs to sea.

Stillness and calm, as the light breaks the darkness in the depths of the moss covered forest.

Water Walls
One of the stormiest days I’ve experienced in the great fiord.

Blush
Autumn often brings the first snow of the season and can sometimes rival the winter storms. Here, the tallest mountain in the country, Aoraki/Mt Cook is complimented by a snow covered valley at dusk. During this time, the shadows in the mountains and snow become quite blue and work well with the warm hues in the sky. A beautiful sight to experience especially with the crisp air.
