Fire Fiord
The most spectacular sunset I’ve witnessed and what a place to be for it! Single exposure. Video on my Youtube channel.

Final Flame
A sky that left us speechless, in a place that needs no introduction. After all these years, it still takes my breath away, especially when the sky is set ablaze in such glory.

Light Break
The weather and light moves fast in Fiordland. One of the best approaches for any artist is to be spontaneous, simply letting the light lead the dance. Moments like this arise and vanish within seconds.

Winter Light
I can still feel the cool, crisp air upon my skin when I look at this image. It’s hard to rival the short days and soft light of winter in the South Island especially after a fresh snow storm when the light finally breaks through.

Blush
Autumn often brings the first snow of the season and can sometimes rival the winter storms. Here, the tallest mountain in the country, Aoraki/Mt Cook is complimented by a snow covered valley at dusk. During this time, the shadows in the mountains and snow become quite blue and work well with the warm hues in the sky. A beautiful sight to experience especially with the crisp air.

Luna
I have a handful of moon images in my portfolio which generally were the result of precise planning and plenty of patience. On this such occasion I was out early in winter, preparing for some dawn photography, when I noticed the low angled moon. I quickly made my way a few kilometres down the valley in order to align this with this composition just before the sun broke the horizon. Single exposure, 400mm perspective.

Each year I spend some time based in the southern fiords, immersed in the wild untouched wilderness awaiting fleeting moments like this.

Valour
A beautiful gift that was unveiled before my eyes. My favourite type of scene to behold as glacially carved mountains rise from the atmospheric forested valley below. A few minutes later it was gone. I really cherish this moment.

Beyond The Ether
Fresh snow and one of the most spectacular light shows I’ve beheld, as the sun set and ignited the clearing storm cloud. Seeing all the elements aligning I knew something special was on the way, so I made the last minute decision to take to the sky for this one. Taking my family with me, it was truly a special moment to share.

Grateful
The best moments are unplanned, unexpected and simply come to demand your attention above all else. After hiking uphill through the dark and snow, this scene materialised and holds a special place in my heart and mind. I’m grateful for it all.

The first time I explored this area, this is what my mind envisioned. It took 4 years but finally on this calm winters morning, the fresh snow, light and atmosphere aligned. My paradise.

Winterland
Fiordland takes on a whole new appearance after a fresh snow storm. The challenge is finding the weather window to get out and experience it. On this morning, everything came together in a spectacular symphony.

Still
The small, delicate leaves of the beech tree really struggle to hold the weight of fresh snow, especially once the sun rises. That said, it is one of the most beautiful sights seeing Fiordland draped in fresh powder down below the tree line. These types of mornings don’t present themself easily, making it even more memorable to witness.
